Happiness Highlights: Win Unlimited eCards!

Monday, July 2nd, 2012

Every Monday, I start my week by highlighting what made me happy from the previous week, because gratitude is the first step in learning how to be happier.

This week I got to:

  • Wake up to my nephew’s smiling face three times.
  • Meet a big deadline even after taking two days off to cope with recent family stuff.
  • Give away a gift card to a reader.
  • Feel the support of this community.

  • Have family photos taken with Jared’s parents and allllll the grandkids.
  • Get a good haircut.
  • Hit my goal to drink more water every single day.
  • Give Jared his AWESOME birthday present (four days early, because I was too excited to wait.)

  • Spend the weekend boating, fishing, and swimming.
  • Watch my dad teach my kids the same things my grandpa taught me – on the exact same fishing boat.

What happy things did you get to experience this week?

Share your happiness highlights in the comments and I’ll pick one lucky commenter to win a year unlimited subscription to Greetums.com, an eCard service created by the passionate and talented Kat Caverly. Am I bribing you to count your blessings? Absolutely! :-)

(Just one comment/entry per person, OK?)

Updated: Congratulations to this week’s winner, Donna G, who said one of her highlights was getting the kitchen sink fixed. :-) Email is on the way, Donna!

Dude, a good haircut goes a LOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGGG way, in my book :) As a gifting love language-y person, I am dying to know what the awesome b-day gift was!

So. I tried a Pinterest pin for that dawn-vinegar soap scum killer recipe. By far the most poignant, joyful, and life-changing moment for me this week. Alllllll those years of scrubbing and scrubbing and scrubbing to no avail. Never again. It feels really weird to say this, but I am so thrilled. There was nothing I loathed to clean more than my bathtub. So, yeah. That was a happiness highlight, alright.

One of my happiness highlights was deciding to join my husband and children who were playing in the backyard in the sprinkler and kiddie pools. I was busy doing something and almost didn’t go out there. Glad I did!

Got to take (some of) my kids to a baseball game

The local car show took place and I was able to see the whole thing with the kids

Watching my daughter increase her reading skill

Getting my son ready for three weeks at sleepaway camp made me very happy. I’m excited for him to get the chance to stretch and grow (he’s in the Counselor In Training program), and I’m also excited to have a few simple weeks ahead of me to get back in touch with my creativity.

Sometimes my highlights are simply that I didn’t have a lowlight. It was relatively smooth sailing in my house this week, and I’ve learned to be grateful just for that. I’ve also been working hard at increasing my fitness, and I have the soreness to prove it. I’m weird that the soreness pleases me, I know, but it helps me feel that I accomplished something.

  7. The best part of my weekend was the time I got to spend with my kids.

We played outside, uninterrupted. No cellphone, no computer, no work, no distractions.

It was simple and it was awesome.

One of my highlights was getting the kitchen sink fixed. It’s been getting increasingly harder to shut off completely – you had to hold your mouth juuust right ;-)
And now it works the way it’s supposed to!

This post came at exactly the right time for me – I got off the plane on Sunday after 27 hours of traveling, immediately hit the ground running and have been working nonstop ever since. Thank you for the reminder to take a step back, breathe, and be grateful!

Happiness for me this week was:
-Receiving positive feedback for work projects I have been spending the past year on. It was a nice reminder that I am contributing towards the bigger picture.
-Reconnecting with good girlfriends after several months of living in separate countries and thinking how wonderful it is to see them happy, healthy and loving life.
-Spending week three without alcohol and feeling great – just taking a bit of a break from the routine that for me is a bit too easy to fall into.
