Happiness Highlights: Lots to Love in Salt Lake City

Monday, March 26th, 2012

Every Monday, I start my week by highlighting what made me happy from the previous week, because I believe we multiply what we focus on, and that gratitude is the first step in learning how to be happier.

I spent the last week in Salt Lake City, a place I knew very little about before visiting. A week in a new place is almost guaranteed to be a good one for me as new experiences are an easy route to happiness. The past few days did not disappoint.

Some of the things for which I was most grateful included:

  • Family bike rides
  • A beautiful view from our campground, the Pony Express RV Resort
  • Time spent playing at Discovery Place, the Salt Lake City’s children museum
  • Dinner with Marty and his wife Reba
  • Walking around downtown Salt Lake
  • A visit to Clark Planetarium, where an iMax movie (Flying Monsters) made me want to be a paleontologist

Despite my brief interlude with personal prejudices, my visit to Salt Lake City was a success. I loved the cool vibe of the city, a place that seems to offer every modern amenity without the frenzied pace of many East Coast cities. We didn’t even scratch the surface of all there is to see and do, but we experienced enough to know this isolated metropolis is worth hopping on a plane to visit again. (Next time, I’m bringing skis.)

Now, it’s on to Moab, Utah.

What were the highlights of your week? Before you rush off into a new week, I invite you to play along and share your own happiness highlights in the comments, or leave me a link to your own Happiness Highlights post.

Your post about personal prejudices was so eye opening to some of the prejudices I hold, without even realizing it. Thank you for being so open and honest.

Some of my own happiness highlights included good news, sunshine, and baths:

Well, I guess I can say that a big highlight from last week was having you guys over for dinner. And I actually like that photo of me you took doing the BBQ thing (I blame the slightly overcooks steaks on my chatting it up with Jared).

  3. that photo of marty looks like a professional shot. like some cooking show or something. terrific capture!

last week rocked. i got to finally hug ree, the pioneer woman. that was way wonderful. and i dear friend’s foot has healed enough that he can walk / drive again so he surprised me by picking me up and treated me to a tasty lunch. also had a fantastic girls getaway on friday night. lots of laughs that night! and saturday i met a bunch of local twitter women for a date at the movies (hunger games) before dinner. and yesterday my aunt and uncle returned safely from a mexican vacation bearing the gift of my favorite tequila. my heart was so happy to see their faces and hear their laughs again!

    • oh man, i forgot to say that i also had an INCREDIBLE night at the penguins game on the 22nd. they gave out little gnomes dressed in team gear, holding a hockey stick and a puck. the night was great fun, the pens won (yay!), plus i got to hang out with michelle, her husband, and their daughter (always a winner). that night was as big a happiness highlight as all the other stuff…

And you got to see Marty; also jealous!

I had a quiet week, but I got a lot done and made space in my life for things I needed to. Also got blessed with more work, which is wonderful.
