Every Monday, I start my week by highlighting what makes me happy from the previous week. Why? Because I believe we multiply what we focus on, and that gratitude is the first step in learning how to be happier.
When we started this journey last summer, we had no goals for miles traveled or states visited. We didn’t think of the trip in terms of distance, but rather time spent on the road.
So I was caught by surprise this week when we suddenly found ourselves with our toes in the Pacific Ocean and I realized we’d done something I hadn’t exactly set out to do: we’d crossed the country completely, from coast to coast. We’d began our adventure at one ocean, and reached another, without even trying specifically. I mean, we set a route and made a list of places to see and things to do, but the bigger picture of what we’d be doing wasn’t apparent when we were going day by day.
One step and state at a time.
One city discovered, another moment enjoyed.
And then we looked up and we had an entire continent behind us, and a new ocean ahead of us.
This week we went whale watching in that new ocean. We hiked up and down the cliffs that make up the Malibu coastline. We saw hundreds of sea lions just hanging out on the buoys off of Redondo Beach.
What made you happy this week?
