You’re so mean
When you talk
About yourself, you were wrong
Change the voices in your head

Whenever I hear those lyrics, I think about my mother. She’s constantly telling me not to say mean things about her daughter.

And then I think of my own daughter.

Pretty, pretty please
Dont you ever, ever feel
Like you’re less than
Fucking perfect

The song is F**kin’ Perfect by Pink, and it is.

The video made me cry this morning.

Here’s to a f**kin’ perfect weekend. xo

  1. Rachel says:

One of my favorite songs from her.

  2. Bre says:

It’s so ironic that you mention this song because my sister was just telling me how it reminds her of me. Have a rockin weekend!

  3. oh that video gets me EVERY time.

by the way, i love that your mom tells you to not say mean things to her daughter. be nicer to my friend, also!

    love you.

  4. Christina says:

The video always makes me cry. And I can’t sing along to the song when someone else is in the car, because I tend to choke up suddenly on the lyric: “Underestimated – look, I’m still around.” Don’t know why, but that one really makes me flash back to when I was a kid.

  5. Becky says:

Don’t we all wish better, healthier, stronger self esteem for our girls than we had? And then, do you wonder if your mother felt the same way about you?
I pray my girls never sit in a corner invisible, I pray that my girls have friends who share their every secret. I pray that my girls always know they, by themselves, are good enough, more than good enough. I pray that they find their worth and value in themselves and not look for it in someone else.
Because I pray all those things for me as well.

Perfect post Britt. F**kin Perfect post.

  6. Penbleth says:

Being nice to ourselves can be the hardest thing sometimes. Be nice to yourself, you deserve it.

  7. Deb says:

I love this song/video and think its a message that so many girls need to hear….including me ;)

  8. Sheila says:

That’s what we always say at home “Don’t talk about my sister like that!” or “Don’t talk about my husband like that!” etc etc etc.

That song makes me cry every single time I hear it.

  9. Neeroc says:

And now I’m crying tonight. I’d never seen that video before. Thanks for posting it.

  10. Faiqa says:

This is one of those rare songs that I don’t sing along to. It’s one that I make myself actually *listen* to. I think Pink is amazing, a venerable poet of our time. I’m a big fan of “Raise Your Glass” too. :-)
“So, raise your glass if you’re wrong/In all the right ways/We will never be never be anything but loud…” I think that describes us well.

(And, yes, I’m referring to you and I like we’re the same person…heh)

  11. I agree with you (and your mama) totally. I set the VU 2nd anniversary video to that song this year because it’s so… well, perfect.

  12. Cecily says:

That just made me cry so hard. OMG.

  13. Lisa says:

I love that song, and I listen to it often, especially during hard weeks like last week. It really does help get my head on straighter.

  14. Vikki says:

I love that song. I listen to it in the car on repeat when I need affirmation. There’s another song I’ve been listening to on repeat for the same reason: Anna Nalick’s Shine, especially the following lines:

Isn’t it time you got over
    how fragile you are?
    We’re all waiting,
    waiting for your supernova
    because that’s who you are
and you’ve only begun to shine

This song always reminds me to ask myself, “what if?” What if you stopped doubting yourself? What might be possible?

  15. Didn’t know this song … know it now and added to playlist.

My breakthrough, when talking about my ‘labels’ one day, was one someone said ‘Who made those labels true?’ That day has since taught me to question every label I and anyone else sticks on me. Thought provoking post. Thank you.

  16. Erin says:

Love this song. It’s one of my favorites from Pink though I’ve never seen the video before. It’s what I want my daughter to know and hear even if she does tune me out. :)
