“Every eye fixed itself upon him
with parted lips and bated breath
the audience hung upon his words
taking no note of time
rapt in the ghastly fascinations of the tale”
-Mark Twain, Tom Sawyer
And now we wait.
All of them, all of us,
to see if it is possible.
To see the dream realized,
or the believers made fools of.
For the celebration,
the disappointment,
the word made flesh.
We wait.
With bated breath.

[...] Miss Bitt [...]
I am glad to be alive to see this amazing moment in history. I feel very privileged, joyful, and quite teary. It’s a great day!
@Selma, it’s one of the first times I can remember thinking “my grandchildren will ask me about this”.
I’m pragmatically optimistic. We need to get it sorted–and soon.
@Turnbaby, I think “pragmatically optimistic” is where most people are at right now.
Well, at least your not holding your breath.
That would result in some smurfy color.
@NYCWD, what do you have against smurfs?
@Miss Britt, I have absolutely nothing against Smurfs. In fact… with the golden locks, a white strap dress, some white heels, and a smurfy white hat… you’d be a Smurfette shoe in.
But being blue isn’t so healthy for hoomans.
Just sayin’.
I love those photos.
@avitable, I love how easily impressed you are with my pictures.
feels like i should be doing something special today instead of just going to work. difficult to explain, but i just don’t feel right today…like i am missing something by going through my daily motions on such an important day in our history.
@hello haha narf, I know exactly what you mean. I feel like I should have made a point of planning a trip to be there, or something. Something.
Instead I’ll watch it on TV over lunch. Meh.
I’m staying home and watching it on TV.
But I say home (and work) most every day, so that’s nothing new. I do plan on raising a few pints to the man this evening though. Fuck yeah!
@B.E. Earl, it would be so cool to be there. I’m really glad I took the time to go to the rallies during the election. At least I feel like I was a part of it in some small way.
So friggin exciting. And I’m w/ Adam – great pics.
@Angie [A Whole Lot of Nothing], Thanks
They’re from my press night! lol (Hey, can you let me know if you get this in an email?? xo)
I’m looking forward to noon with hope. I’ll be watching from my desk…
@Finn, it’s what happens after today that I’m watching for.
@Miss Britt, Absolutely. But I’ve decided to worry about that tomorrow. And every day thereafter. Today I’ll just enjoy it.
@Finn, *sigh* I love that about you.
Here’s a toast to all the optimists today. Today is OUR day!
I truly hope he can do everything he wants to, and is strong enough to stand up to the considerable opposition he will face. He gave some very powerful speeches and amazing promises, and I’d be thrilled if he lived up to 1/3 of them.
I have no idea what you’re referring to here. Is Santa coming to town? No, wait, that was last month.
Sincerely,
Your Canadian Friend Who Hasn’t Cared About Politics Until This Year. GOBAMA!
Sidenote, I do enjoy all of the blog fodder this has created! I think almost everyone on my feed (and myself) have written about today.
Big sigh of relief.
Um……
Hmmm….
Uh……
